Lesson 2 – The Three Realms of Our Lives
The Paradigm of the Founders
Before we can discover the American Constitutional Paradigm, we need to know just what a paradigm is. Once we know what a paradigm is then we will consider whether or not a particular paradigm is either American or Constitutional.
We started our discussion by defining a paradigm as : a philosophical or theoretical framework of any kind.
Our quest is to find the paradigm of the Founders. This we will do by examining their words so we can discover what they were thinking.
In this lesson we talked about the importance of learning the language of the Founders so that we can understand their words.
Assignment 1
The following excerpt from Joe Sobran shows the importance of learning the language of those who have gone before so that we can understand their thinking or in other words their paradigm. Just as the founders studied their predecessors and contemporaries, then added some wisdom of their own to the conversation, after we learn what the founders have to offer, we too will be able to add our wisdom to the grand discussions of our times.
After examining the quote please take time to read the entire article “How Tyranny Came to America” using the link button following the quote. We think that you will agree as we do with Mr. Sobran that tyranny has indeed already come to America.
One of the great goals of education is to initiate the young into the conversation of their ancestors; to enable them to understand the language of that conversation, in all its subtlety, and maybe even, in their maturity, to add to it some wisdom of their own.
